picture this, me

Transitioning a bit tonight. Seems lonelier, and I find myself wanting to be busy. Last time here it took me about 6 days to get over the "what the hell am I doing here" feelings. This time I prepared to let them come. It's necessary for me to let myself feel lonely in order to get quiet enough to begin to really feel.

Where is Alan tonight?

Scandan wash, 14 day free area, south of I-10 by about 200 yards.

Pushed on from Barstow and drove all the way to Quartzsite in one step. This new truck is so easy. Had three interesting things I coudn't get pictures off. First, 4 white perfectly matched vans, no markings, dark dark windows, all moving as one - like a car commercial- flew by me on the desert. Second a very big flat bed truck had two very big somethings under form fitting red tarps. Very big - no markings on the truck. Last when I was taking a picture at the rest stop - of the rattlesnake sign - a military jet went overhead at at incredible speed about 100 feet off the floor of the valley. Edwards airforce base is near- of course at his speed, Eugene was pretty near too. Oh, a fourth thing. A very common flat bed truck like the kind wrecking yard would have - dirty, etc. went by with the turret and gun from an M1 tank on it. Cool wrecking stuff here.
tonight I've let the page get out to 800 pixels because most of you are at 1024X768 resolution or higher. If you have to scroll right and left to see the pictures, let me know and I'll go back to 650 wide.

I'm liking the truck more. I snapped this on AZ 95 headed south. It's a 55mph marked road and in previous trips I was not able to maintain it and everyone passed me. Look at my speed. Everyone still passed me. TJ - check out the tach and speedo - 2300rpm at 69mph
Crossing the Colorado from California to AZ on Route 40.

Just I've been hearing how could it has been in Eugene. So here's an unposed picture. I was filling the water tank, carrying 5 gal cans over to the filler spout and pouring them into the front holding tank. The temperature was getting TOO WARM in the trailer so I left the door open so Barsik could look out.

I didn't know that all the water I was filling was going to be pumped right onto the floor of the trailer in the next hour. SHIT!

Left - love signs like this. Above that's the Mojave Spaceport - the only private spaceport in America. That is where the X prize was won last year.

You can see my wall-to-wall laying on the gravel. It is made entirely of recycled plastic from coke containers and is not affected by being wet - but still it is holding a lot of water. I don't know if the under pad - laying in a tree to my left will dry out tomorrow or not. It is so dry here that I have hopes that I can put everything back togther by tomorrow night.
Rugs out, and I've taken everything off the floor. Upon leaving that rest stop where I filled the 20 gallons - hand carried and poured- I left. I hit some big bump and whoop-te-doos on 95 going south and one of them made the miniblind strike the facet on the sink and turn it on full. It emptied all 20 gallons into the sink, then onto the floor, then into the cabinets and stove, then underneath the bath tub and then out the rear of the trailer. I saw it when I stopped to by groceries but by then the water pump was just pumping air and the damage was done.
You can get a good shot of the installed desk/cabinet. The doors will go on tomorrow when I get the hinges, and I'll start making the seat that will cover the batteries and provide a padded bench and back. I suspect this will be my chair as basik has taken over the rollable desk chair - you can just see it on the right. The chair back will cover much of the solar charge and inverter confusion on the wall. I think think they are so pretty, but I need the space.
