Just pictures about the petroglyph site 3 miles south of Quartzsite
December 28, 2006
Here are pictures from yesterday from my small camera. (Ed's old Fuji). I don't want to bore the people who aren't into a vanished people who left only traces in and on stone. Why are they on aftershock? Well here is a civilization that has disappeared. I'm sure they thought they would last a million years, if they thought about it at all, just like us. When we don't pay attention we think everything is permanent, especially our current technological society. What marks will we leave, what is important for you to say to people 5000 years from now? Most importantly to me, what did they say and who where they saying it to. Maybe it is no more significant that, "hey honey, pick up some of the ground seed, oh, you know the one I like," or maybe they say, "we are dying, we were here, we made mistakes. Don't make these mistakes if you wish your future generations to persist."
These are all from my small camera yesterday, and they will be on the CD to serve as an overview, to give yourself a reference of where the detailed pictures that my brother took yesterday, fit in.

An overview of the front facing the wash.

This is a very interesting area that I hope to be able
to pull out many interesting glyphs with the better
pictures. It is in the lower left of the picture to the left. I used photoshop to pull out the contrast a little.

I didn't find this set until I was with my brother.
The weather was overcast enough to make the invisible, slightly visible. Besides the better photograph that I have on CD now (and I'm working on them) I think I might go with a bottle mister and see if wetting them slightly brings them out.

Here is another set on the front wall that were invisible on previous visits.

I will make a map from a google map satellite view and try to place the locations of the glyphs and grind holes on it this week.

Here is a grind hole brother discovered on the southeast side of the hill away from the wash

This is a petroglpyh that bothers me. It is so different and so modern looking compared to the others, yet the patina of desert varnish over the white areas looks the same color as the other petroglyphs. I desparately need a free chicken to point me to a glyph site for the Hohoken (or Hoboken) in the Southwest desert, USA. In the Pima Indian language, Hohoken means, "they who came before." I'm not sure of my spelling on any of these so if a Pima Indian reads this, please please correct me.
Left: An overview shot of the five grinding BASINS (thanks for the correction Tom!) at the point of the bluff on the opposite side of the wash from the petroglyphs. Despite excellent rock faces with some varnish, we found NO petroglyphs on this side, while we did find three grinding holes around the petroglyph side of the wash. As usual I have no idea what that means.
