Memes are contagious ideas, all competing for a share of our mind in a kind of Darwinian selection.

Desert Quartzsite AZ
2005

little

Australopethicus afarensis quartzsenius peeks from behind Saguro Cactus, after hearing suspicious rattling sound. False alarm - just keys and canteen in my back pack.

Above an arroyo with finely detailed cactus.

Right, the skeleton of a Saguro. That is what is left when they rot away.

Thats why it's called Quartzsite. Hunks of quartz little the rocking plain, everyhwere quartz in various sized and colors.

Right - the confident hiker plans his hike well and keeps within his physical capabilities.

Hey Dave, is this how you know when the hike is done? Out of water. Few other pictures where found his camera, which you can see below. email print out found in pocket from B.P 75x indicated he should stop working on the trailer and enjoy the desert. How ironic..

We think he was headed here, which was less than a mile from where he apparently walked in circles for several days.

What very negative consequence of the wet winter is that the Saguros are taking too much water in. In some areas the arms are breaking off due to the weight, and as you can see here they are cracking open from too much water.

What is awful for the cacti is a godsend for the desert wild flowers. Natives to the area say they have never seen it rain like this in their lives.
