Adult Education - the continuing education of self past formal education.
Everything we do everyday is educating us, so if I want to direct that education I have to decide how much satellite TV, how much and what to read, and what to experience first hand.

The Gutenberg project gives everyone with an internet connection access to a classical education beyond the dreams of the most learned person just fifty years ago. Combined with an intelligent use of Satellite TV, with access to the BBC, the history channel, Discovery, etc., we can begin to build a world view that is not centered on purely USA content providers.
I'm very patriotic, but I also realize that every part of the world has a different take on the "reality" of what is going on in the world. The more divergent sources of information that we have, the more likely we are to cross "truth" now and again.
I add World Band Shortwave radio to complete my world information and current events education.

Connection to local events is education and it is communication. When it is only one-way - as when I'm listening to local FM radio stations it is mostly entertainment.
But for getting local information I also carry:
CB Radio
Broadband scanner
and a solar powered FM/AM emergency radio.

Internet access to on line courses and listservs, chats and websites round out my planned educational expansion.
